Hey there! I’m Maria. I love spending time with my three sons and husband. We recently got a puppy, Lulu, and everyone loves her crazy self to pieces. My favorite thing to do is reading or learning new things. I have two best friends that I could not imagine living life without. Before becoming a therapist, I was a medical claims adjuster at Nationwide and then owned a home daycare while I was completing my masters.
I work with women and children because I am fiercely protective of these populations in my own life. There is a term in the therapy world called “wounded healer.” This term is from Carl Jung and research suggests that upwards of 70% of counselors and psychologist have had their own “wounding” experiences which led them to their career path. I work with these populations because my counselors and psychologists growing up helped me see through the fog of abusive parenting and romantic relationships. They helped me grow and heal, doing the only thing that they could- providing a safe space for me to cry, vent, be sorrowful, and share in my growth and successes. They were there to remind me who I was when I had forgotten. I am a counselor to be able to provide the same safety and security for you or your child.
I have a BA from The Ohio State University in Sociology and M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. I am a National Certified Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Ohio. I am a clinical specialist for Autism and have completed thousands of hours of study, research, and work with this population. I have also completed certification trainings for ADHD and Trauma. I recently completed a Grief Summit which helped better equip me to help deal with the tremendous losses clients have experienced over the last few years of the pandemic. I attend weekly trainings on various topics that provide additional tools or understanding for me to better serve my clients. If I recommend a reading or an activity, it is because I have used it myself and personally know the potential benefit. I know what it is like to “sit on the couch” and share your story, I do not take it lightly if you choose to allow me that same privilege in working with you.
